# Write a board intention

A **board intention** tells Futurecast what you want a board to be about. Think of it as a short note to guide the app when it writes new futures.

You do not need special wording. A few useful details are enough.

For a work board, you could write: "I want to speak clearly in meetings. I lead a small team. I want to trust my decisions and make time for deep work."

## Explain what your board is about

1. Open **Boards**, then open your board.
2. Tap the **three dots** at the top.
3. Tap **Board Settings**.
4. Tap **Add Intention** or **Edit Intention**.
5. Write or change your note.
6. Tap **Save**.

You can also press and hold a board in **Boards**, then choose **Add Intention** or **Edit Intention**.

Changing the intention guides future writing. It does not rewrite the futures already on your board.

## Get help with the words

In the intention editor:

1. Tap **Write for me** if the field is empty. Futurecast uses the board name to get started.
2. If you have already written something, tap **Expand** to build on it.
3. Read the result. Change anything that does not fit you.
4. Tap **Try another** if you want another version.
5. Tap **Save** when the words feel right.

If the app shows a limit message, you can still write or edit the intention yourself.

The **Personalized** label reflects how much detail you have added. You do not need to reach it to save your board.

<a id="undo-a-change"></a>

## Undo a change

Use the curved arrow pointing back to undo an intention change. Use the forward arrow to redo it. An arrow is unavailable when there is no change to undo or redo.

Save when you are happy with the result. **Cancel** leaves the saved intention unchanged.

## Choose how new futures are written

**Writing style** controls how new futures sound on the page. It is separate from what your board is about.

1. Open the board's intention editor.
2. Tap **Writing style**.
3. Read the examples and choose a style.
4. Tap **Done** to return to the intention.
5. Tap **Save**.

If you are making a new board, finish with **Create board** instead.

<a id="describe-your-own-style"></a>

## Describe your own style

1. Open **Writing style**.
2. Tap **In your own words**.
3. Describe the kind of writing you want. For example: "Short, calm lines. Use everyday words."
4. Tap **Use this style**.
5. Return to the intention editor and save it.

This affects newly generated futures. Your existing futures keep their words.

## Keep board ideas separate

Futurecast can use one board's intention to help write futures on another board. You control this in two directions.

1. Open your board.
2. Tap the **three dots > Board Settings**.
3. Find **Personalization**.
4. Set the switches you want:
   - **Inspire Other Boards:** Let this board's intention help shape futures on your other boards.
   - **Be Inspired by Other Boards:** Let your other boards' intentions help shape futures here.
5. Tap **Done**.

Turn both off if you want this board's writing to stay separate. These choices do not share your board with other people.

The same choices are in the menu that opens when you press and hold a board.

<a id="generate-futures-for-your-board"></a>

## Generate futures for your board

1. Open the board.
2. Tap **Add Futures** on an empty board, or the **+** on a board with futures.
3. Tap **Generate futures**.
4. If asked for more detail, tap **Add Intention** to explain the board. Or tap **Generate Anyway** to continue with the information already there.
5. Wait for the new futures to appear.
6. Read them. Edit any words you want to change.

You can also pull upward at the bottom of the board when the generation prompt is shown.

Your intention can include moments with a person or pet, such as "I spend more time outdoors with my dog, Milo." Futurecast may include them in some new futures. When you add an AI image, they may already be selected under **Featuring**. Check the choices before generating the image. See [how People & Pets work with board futures](https://futurecastapp.com/help/create-personalization#include-people-and-pets-in-board-futures).

New futures can begin as words. Use **Add Image** on a future when you want to add a picture. If an **x** appears on a newly generated future, it lets you discard that future.

If the board is paused, [choose it as an active board](https://futurecastapp.com/help/create-organize#when-a-board-is-paused) before adding more.
