# Fix missing or unexpected audio

Start with the section that matches what you hear.

<a id="no-voice"></a>

## No voice

1. Open the future in the full player.
2. Check whether it has a voice. A microphone control can mean you still need to add one.
3. If it has a voice, check the mute control near the bottom left.
4. Tap play.
5. Raise your iPhone's volume.
6. Check whether sound is going to connected headphones or a speaker.

A future can have words and an image without a voice. It is still ready to read. To hear it, [add a voice recording](https://futurecastapp.com/help/create-recording) or [use your AI voice](https://futurecastapp.com/help/create-ai-voice).

<a id="quiet-gaps-between-voices"></a>

## Quiet gaps between voices

The gap may be a **Reflect** pause. This is quiet time you chose after spoken futures.

Tap the hourglass in the full player. Choose a shorter pause or **Off**. During a pause, you can also tap the current future to skip that pause.

If the future has no voice, it will be silent while it is shown.

<a id="the-same-future-keeps-playing"></a>

## The same future keeps playing

1. Tap the repeat arrows in the full player.
2. Check whether **One** is selected. This repeats the current future without an end.
3. Choose **Off** to play through once, or **All** to repeat the whole board.
4. Check **Reps per Future**. This repeats each future before moving on.

See [repeat settings](https://futurecastapp.com/help/practice-repeat-and-reflect) for examples.

<a id="background-sound"></a>

## Background sound

1. Tap the music note in the full player.
2. Open **Background Sound**.
3. Check that a sound is selected and its volume is high enough.
4. If the sound was not downloaded, check your internet connection.
5. If its row says **Couldn't play. Tap to try again.**, tap it again after checking the connection.

A heart saves a sound to Favorites. It does not download it. See [offline sounds](https://futurecastapp.com/help/practice-sound-and-timer#offline-sounds).

<a id="other-music-is-too-loud-or-stops"></a>

## Other music is too loud or stops

Open the music-note menu, then **Audio Focus**.

Choose **Lower other audio** to make the other app quieter. Choose **Mix with other audio** to keep both apps audible. Choose **Futurecast only** to let Futurecast take over.

<a id="lock-screen-controls-another-app"></a>

## Lock Screen controls another app

Choose **Futurecast only** under **Audio Focus**. Then start a future with a voice.

Modes that mix with other audio can leave the other app in charge of the Lock Screen and headphone buttons.

<a id="playback-stopped"></a>

## Playback stopped

Check whether a sleep timer ended. Open the music-note menu and look under **Sleep Timer**.

If headphones disconnected or another action interrupted the session, check your sound output. Then return to the player and tap play.

If the problem continues, [contact support](https://futurecastapp.com/help/account-support). Explain what you were playing, which controls you used, and whether you were using headphones.
