Put Futurecast on your Home Screen or Lock Screen

A widget is a small item on your iPhone screen.

A widget is a small item on your iPhone screen. It lets you see something from an app or start an action quickly.

Futurecast offers a Practice widget that shows a future from your Daily Ritual or a board. A board is a group of futures.

Open Futurecast and set up the board or Daily Ritual you want before choosing it in a widget.

Practice widget

  1. On your iPhone Home Screen, press and hold an empty area.
  2. Tap Edit, then Add Widget.
  3. Find Futurecast.
  4. Choose Practice and a size.
  5. Tap Add Widget, then Done.

To change what it shows, press and hold the widget and choose Edit Widget. Under Collection, choose Daily Ritual or a board. Tap outside the widget to finish.

The widget now uses that source. Apple's widget guide has more help with adding and editing widgets.

You can also find Futurecast's short introduction in Profile > Daily Practice > Home Screen Widget. Tapping Got it closes the introduction. You still add the widget through your iPhone.

Lock Screen

  1. Press and hold your iPhone Lock Screen.
  2. Tap Customize and choose the Lock Screen if asked.
  3. Tap the widget area or Add Widgets.
  4. Find Futurecast and choose a widget.
  5. Close the picker and tap Done.

Choose the kind you want:

  • Practice: a rectangular widget that shows future text.
  • Open Futurecast: a small round button that opens the app.
  • Play Futurecast: a small round button that starts your Daily Ritual or a chosen board.

While editing the Lock Screen, tap a configurable widget to choose its content. Apple's Lock Screen widget steps explain how to make room if the area is full.

Audio only

The round Play Futurecast Lock Screen widget has an Audio only choice.

  1. Edit your Lock Screen.
  2. Tap the Play Futurecast widget.
  3. Under Play, choose the Daily Ritual or board.
  4. Turn on Audio only if you want spoken playback without opening the full player.
  5. Finish editing the Lock Screen.

Choose content that has voices to listen to. A future without voice audio has nothing spoken to play. A text card can still have a voice.

Control Center

Control Center is the iPhone panel with controls such as volume and brightness. Futurecast has Open Futurecast and Play Futurecast controls there too.

  1. Swipe down from the top-right corner of your iPhone. On an iPhone with a Home button, swipe up from the bottom.
  2. Tap the plus button to edit.
  3. Tap Add a Control.
  4. Find Futurecast and add Open Futurecast or Play Futurecast.
  5. For Play Futurecast, choose the Daily Ritual or board in its settings.
  6. Close Control Center when you finish.

The Play control opens Futurecast and starts the chosen source. Its choices differ from the round Lock Screen widget. Apple's Control Center guide explains adding and editing controls.

Missing content

If a selected board was deleted or has nothing to play:

  1. Open Futurecast.
  2. Check that the board still exists and has active futures.
  3. Edit the widget and choose an available board or Daily Ritual.
  4. Return to your Home Screen or Lock Screen.

The widget may take time to refresh. Opening a widget does not restore a deleted board.
